After the Windows endpoint, installed with App Volumes agent, resumes from hibernation, App Volumes applications delivered as VHD packages from remote SMB file shares stop working because the packages are no longer virtualized. To ensure that the applications continue working, use ENABLEHIBERNATION, an optional svservice parameter.
You can include the parameter as an option in the msiexec command at the time of installing the App Volumes agent. The installer wizard does not provide an option to add this parameter.
If you add the parameter after installing the App Volumes agent, the Windows endpoint must be restarted.
When this parameter is set to 1, applications remain available after the Windows endpoint resumes from hibernation. If the network is not available when the Windows endpoint resumes, App Volumes agent retries the connection to the SMB file share for the duration specified in the HibernationRetryDuration parameter. If the network becomes available within this duration, end users can continue using the applications. If the network remains unavailable within this duration, the applications close automatically.
Note:
- It is recommended that you continue working with the App Volumes applications only after the network is available.
HibernationRetryDurationparameter is added automatically whenENABLEHIBERNATIONis set to1.
When this parameter is set to 0, or when the duration specified in the HibernationRetryDuration parameter expires before the network becomes available, App Volumes applications delivered as VHD packages from remote SMB file shares stop working after the Windows endpoint resumes from hibernation because the packages are no longer virtualized.
By default, the value of this parameter is 0.
When to use the ENABLEHIBERNATION PARAMETER
You can include this parameter in the msiexec command at the time of installing or upgrading App Volumes agent as the installer wizard does not provide an option to include the parameter. You can also add the parameter later, after install or upgrade.
Note: After adding the parameter, the Windows endpoint must be restarted.
The parameter must be added to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\svservice\Parameters. When provided as a command-line option, the parameter gets automatically added to the registry key path.
For information about install or upgrade, see the following:
- Install App Volumes Agent
- Install App Volumes Agent Silently
- Install App Volumes Application Capture Command-Line Program
- Upgrade App Volumes Agent
- Upgrade App Volumes Agent Silently
HibernationRetryDuration
IMPORTANT This parameter is available only when ENABLEHIBERNATION is set to 1. By default, the value of this parameter is 300 seconds.
If the network is unavailable after the App Volumes agent machine resumes from hibernation, App Volumes agent keeps trying to recover the connection to the SMB file share that hosts the VHD packages. This parameter specifies how long, in seconds, App Volumes agent machine must keep trying to recover the network connection. If the network becomes available within the configured duration, end users can continue using the applications. Else, the applications close automatically.
If the configured duration expires, the applications stop working. For more information about what happens, see the behavior of ENABLEHIBERNATION=0 earlier in this page.
