Configure Dedicated Machines To Be Suspended After Users Disconnect

The Suspend power policy causes virtual machines to be suspended when a user logs off, but not when a user disconnects. You can also configure machines in a dedicated pool to be suspended when a user disconnects from a desktop without logging off. Using Suspend when users disconnect helps to conserve resources.

To enable suspend on disconnect for dedicated machines, you must set an attribute in the Horizon Connection Server's Horizon Directory database (Horizon LDAP).

You can use the ADSI Edit utility to edit LDAP attributes on the Connection Server. Under the existing pae-NameValuePair attribute, add a new entry suspendOnDisconnect=1.

Procedure

  1. Start the ADSI Edit utility on your Connection Server host.

  2. Set up a connection to localhost:389, using the distinguished naming context for a Horizon Connection Server.

  3. In the ADSI Edit window, expand the folder tree and expand OU=Properties until you see OU=Global.

  4. Select OU=Global, locate CN=Common within its displayed entities, and open the Attribute Editor on CN=Common.

  5. Within the CN Common attributes, under the pae-NameValuePair attribute, add the new entry suspendOnDisconnect=1 and save the update.

  6. Restart the Connection Server service or Connection Server.
