Workspace ONE UEM gives you a robust set of mobility management solutions for enrolling, securing, configuring, and managing your ChromeOS device deployment. ChromeOS is a great solution for remote workforce solutions, kiosks or dedicated devices, or shared/multi-user devices.
Management of ChromeOS devices is an almost entirely a cloud-based solution. All policy and app management is handled through server to server API calls with Google. The Workspace ONE UEM console pushes policies to Google Cloud and Google cloud handles the delivery of policies and apps to the device. Google Cloud provides information about the success or failure of pushing policies and apps for the Workspace ONE UEM console to display.
ChromeOS Management Versions for Workspace ONE UEM
Currently, there are two ways to integrate ChromeOS with Workspace ONE UEM:
- The default management method is the Chrome Management solution that uses Chrome Policy APIs. This version supports both Chrome Enterprise and Chrome EDU. For more information on the default management method, see Using ChromeOS Devices with Chrome Policy API (Default Management Method).
- For customers that use older versions of Workspace ONE UEM, 2302 or earlier versions, their ChromeOS devices still operate under the Chrome Management Partner Access API management method. This is the first generation of cloud-based device management solution. For more information on the legacy management method, see Using ChromeOS Devices with Chrome Management Partner Access API ( Legacy Management Method).
Workspace ONE UEM Organization Groups registered with ChromeOS EMM prior to 2302 will continue to use the Chrome Management Partner Access APIs. Newly registered Organization Groups follows the Chrome Policy API solution.
This guide is divided into two sections to help you enroll configure, and manage your ChromeOS devices for both managment methods.
