Worksheet: Configuration Options for Nutanix Pool Deployment
When you create a Nutanix desktop pool, you can configure certain options. Use this worksheet to record your configuration options before you create the pool.
| Category | Option | Description | Enter Your Value Here |
|---|---|---|---|
| Type | Select Automated Desktop Pool | ||
| Management Server | Select Capacity | Choose your Prism Central instance. The system populates the list with the capacity providers configured in Servers > Capacity Providers. | |
| Basic Information | The following settings define the pool. | ||
| ID | Enter the Pool ID. | ||
| Display Name | Enter the Pool Display Name. | ||
| Description | Enter a description of the pool. | ||
| Access Group | Select the Access Group. | ||
| Assignment Type | Select Floating or Dedicated. Select the type of user assignment:
| ||
| Assignment Method | Select an assignment method. | ||
| Session Mode | Desktop is selected. | ||
| Persistence | Select Persistent or Non-Persistent. | ||
| Enable Desktop Pool | Select Enable or Disable. | ||
| Provisioning | The following settings provision the machines. | ||
| Provision Machines |
Select All Machines Up-Front or Machines on Demand. With Machines on Demand, additional machines are provisioned as users log in, up to the maximum number of VMs. Starting with Horizon 8 2609, floating, non-persistent pools that use Machines on Demand also scale down after users log off. Horizon 8 evaluates the machines that users have logged off from, deletes the machines that exceed the minimum number of machines and the spare count, and refreshes the rest. The pool never drops below the minimum number of machines, and Horizon 8 does not delete a machine if doing so leaves fewer available machines than the spare count. This feature is enabled by default and also applies to existing pools after you upgrade to Horizon 8 2609. Pools that use All Machines Up-Front, persistent pools, and dedicated pools are not affected. | ||
| Maximum Number of VMs | Enter the max VMs. | ||
| Spare VMs | Enter the number of spare machines to keep available for new user sessions. In floating, non-persistent pools that use Machines on Demand, at least this many machines are kept available when it scales the pool down after users log off. Note: In floating, non-persistent pools that use Machines on Demand, surplus machines are deleted after users log off instead of refreshing them, regardless of this setting. Machines that are kept to meet the minimum number of machines or the spare count are refreshed according to this setting. | ||
| Virtual Machine Naming | Enter the naming pattern. | ||
| Remote Machine Power Policy | Determines how a virtual machine behaves when the user logs off of the associated desktop. Take no power action is selected. | ||
| Logoff After Disconnect |
| ||
| Refresh OS Disk After Logoff |
| ||
| Enable Provisioning | You can enable or virtual machine provisioning in the desktop pool. When you deactivate provisioning in the desktop pool, Horizon 8 stops provisioning new virtual machines for the desktop pool. After you deactivate provisioning, you can enable provisioning again. Before you change a desktop pool's configuration, you can deactivate provisioning to ensure that no new machines are created with the old configuration. You can also deactivate provisioning to prevent Horizon 8 from using additional storage when a pool is close to filling up the available space. When you create a desktop pool and deactivate this option, Horizon 8 creates a desktop pool without any virtual machines. If you edit a desktop pool and deactivate provisioning, Horizon 8 does not allow any new virtual machines to be provisioned in this desktop pool. End users can still connect to existing virtual machines. | ||
| Stop Provisioning on Error | Discontinue provisioning when there is an error. | ||
| Source | The following settings allows you select the Golden Image Template. | ||
| Golden Image | Select the Golden Image VM Template that you created earlier. | ||
| Destination Cluster | The following settings allow you to select your destination cluster. | ||
| Destination Custer | Select the destination cluster. | ||
| VM Specifications | Complete the following: | ||
| Compute Profile | Select Add New. | ||
| Network Settings | Make one of the following selections:
| ||
| Advanced Settings | Use default settings unless customized options are needed. | ||
| Use Category Folder | Select to specify the name of the category folder that contains a Start menu shortcut for the pool entitlement | ||
| Enable Connection Server Restrictions | Select to restrict access to the pool to certain Connection Servers by clicking Browse and selecting one or more Connection Servers. | ||
| Enable Client Restrictions | Select whether to restrict access to pools from certain client computers. | ||
| Allow Users to Restart Machines | Select to allow users to reset or restart their own desktops. | ||
| Allow Session Collaboration | Select Allowed to permit users of the desktop pool to invite other users to join their remote desktop sessions. Session owners and session collaborators must use the Horizon Blast protocol. | ||
| Allowed User Access Location | Determines the user acccess location.
| ||
| Used VM Policy | When an automated non-persistent floating desktop pool is not cleanly logged off, then the desktop goes into the Already Used state or the Agent Disabled state. This security feature prevents any previous session data from being available during the next login, but leaves the data intact to enable administrators to access the desktop and retrieve lost data or investigate the root cause of the reset. Administrators can then refresh or delete the desktop.
Select from these options:
| ||
| Show Assigned Machine Name | Applies only to dedicated user assignments.
With this choice, when a user logs in to their client, the client displays the host name of the underlying machine instead of displaying the desktop pool display name. If no machine is assigned to the user, then the client displays Display Name (No Machine Assigned) for the desktop pool. | ||
| Show Machine Alias Name | Applies only to dedicated user assignments.
With this choice, when a user logs in to their client, the client displays the machine alias name set for the assigned users of the machine instead of displaying the desktop pool display name. If no machine alias name is set but the Show Assigned Machine Name is set, then the client displays the machine host name for the desktop pool. Otherwise, the desktop display name appears for the desktop pool in Horizon Client. | ||
| Allow Machine Name Selection | Enabling this option will allow a command line launch of Horizon Client to specify a machine name to connect to, for example for test or troubleshooting purposes. Applies only to floating desktop pools.. | ||
| Allow PCoIP Ultra | Select to enable PCoIP Ultra. Users of this pool can have sessions using PCoIP Ultra display protocol. This feature is available when PCoIP Ultra Agent and Horizon Agent are installed together on the virtual machine. For more information, see Enabling HP Anyware PCoIP Ultra Sessions. | ||
| Guest Customization | |||
| Domain | Select an Active Directory domain. The drop-down list shows the domains that you specify when you configure domain administrators. | ||
| AD container | Specify the Active Directory container's relative distinguished name. For example: CN=Computers.
Use the Find or Browse button to locate the Active Directory tree for the container. Click the Information icons next to the fields to get help using these options.
| ||
| Site Name | Select the Active Directory site for the pool. | ||
| Allow Reuse of Existing Computer Accounts | Select this option to use existing computer accounts in Active Directory when the virtual machine names of new Nutanix clones match the existing computer account names. | ||
| Image Publish Computer Account | If necessary, specify a computer account name. | ||
| Power-Off Script Name | Specify the path name of a script to run on the desktop VMs and the script parameters before the VMs are powered off. | ||
| Power-Off Script Parameters | Example: p1 p2 p3 | ||
| Post-Synchronization Script Name | Specify the path name of a script to run on the desktop VMs and the script parameters after the VMs are created. | ||
| Post-Synchronization Script Parameters | Example: p1 p2 p3 | ||
| Customization | Use ClonePrep or a customization specification (Sysprep). The default setting for use is ClonePrep. | ||
| Ready to Complete | Review all settings for accuracy before submitting. |
