Omnissa Horizon Client Next Release Notes

This Tech Preview of Horizon Client Next is available for early testing before its official release in 2026.
Tech Previews are not intended for production environments.

Horizon Client Next features a brand new, modern interface design for Horizon Client across Windows, Mac and Linux platforms.

Why the new interface?

For end users: The previous Horizon Client had three different interfaces, that is, one for each platform. That meant users working across multiple devices had to relearn where features were located and how settings worked. Horizon Client Next eliminates this friction, letting you focus on your work instead of hunting for options.

For IT administrators: Managing three different client experiences meant three sets of documentation, three training programs and inconsistent user support issues across platforms. A unified interface reduces training costs, simplifies troubleshooting and makes it easier to roll out new features consistently.

Known issues and features under development

Display and Monitor

  • Application scaling and monitor selection changes are not supported after session start.
Workaround: Set display and scaling preferences before launching the desktop or app.

  • Extended monitor support may cause alignment issues, black artifacts, or require resizing to reflect changes.
Workaround: Use a single monitor or resize the window after connecting.

  • On macOS, adding/removing displays during a session may cause crashes or undesired behavior.
Workaround: Connect all required displays before starting the session.

  • On Linux, multiple monitors are not supported, and the display does not scale across multiple monitors.
Workaround: No workaround exists; please use a single monitor.

Performance

  • High session counts (~60 sessions) may increase login/launch times and memory usage, cause rendering issues, or make the application unresponsive.
Workaround: Limit concurrent sessions and monitor system resources. If the application is unresponsive, you can force quit the app and relaunch it.

  • The TechPreview app may consume high CPU/memory.
Workaround: Close unused applications and monitor resource usage.

Authentication

  • Launching Workspace ONE is not supported.
Workaround: On Windows, rename the Client Next executable file to horizon-client to use WS1 Mode.

  • FIDO2 authentication is not available.
Workaround: Use other supported authentication methods.

Platform-Specific Issues

Windows

  • Jumplist, URI, and Shortcuts may not work for Horizon Client Next
Workaround: Rename horizon-client-next to horizon-client. The existing horizon-client binary can be renamed to your choice to avoid conflict.

  • Surface Pro wireless keyboard may not highlight the text box or behave as expected.
Workaround: Use a wired keyboard or standard input devices.

  • The shadebar may not be center-aligned.
Workaround: No workaround exists; you can move the shadebar anywhere on screen.

  • Skip auto-update option is not available with next client.
Workaround: Use can choose not to enable "Download updates in the background" toggle in the software update setting.

Linux

  • Deleting the logs folder will cause log collection to fail.
Workaround: Do not delete the logs folder during troubleshooting.

  • Windowed scaling/resolution changes are blocked.
Workaround: Set the desired resolution before launching the client.

  • Desktop/app resize may not work as expected; full screen may not be functional when changed from windowed mode after the session is launched.
Workaround: Use the default window size or full screen before connecting.

  • Horizon Client Next app may cause desktop list menu dropdown issues.
Workaround: Use the app in windowed mode and avoid maximizing.

Mac

  • Application Menu options are not available in the Mac Menu bar
Workaround: Menu options can be used from the settings and the shade bar.

  • Last-launched session display size may not be retained.
Workaround: Use display settings to preserve layout.

  • Multimonitor flickering may occur while resizing.
Workaround: Avoid resizing during active sessions.

  • Retina support is limited.
    Workaround: Use standard display settings.

  • URL redirection is not supported
    Workaround: None

  • Skip auto-update option is not available with next client.
Workaround: Use can choose not to enable "Download updates in the background" toggle in software update setting.
