Enable Verbose Logging for the App Volumes Manager Installer

In earlier versions of App Volumes, the App Volumes Manager installer generates a verbose log by default. To optimize the install duration, verbose logging is turned off in App Volumes 2609 and later. The generated log continues to capture errors, warnings, status messages, and so on with fewer details. If you need more details for a failed installation or upgrade, then you can restore verbose logging.

To enable verbose logging, you must first deactivate the installer's local logging and then turn on verbose logging. If local logging is not deactivated, then the default log with fewer details takes precedence over verbose logging.

Procedure

1. Log in as administrator in the virtual machine where you intend to install or upgrade App Volumes Manager.

2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer, add DisableLoggingFromPackage as a REG_DWORD value, and set the data as 1.

   DisableLoggingFromPackage deactivates local logging. For more information about this value, see this Microsoft article.

3. Add Logging as the REG_SZ value and set the data as voicewarmup.

4. Install or upgrade App Volumes Manager using the wizard or silently.

   After install or upgrade, App Volumes Manager installer generates verbose logging. MSI*.LOG files are verbose logs generated in the Temp (%tmp%) directory.

What To Do Next

After you have collected the information you need, it is recommended that you revert to the default log behavior otherwise verbose logging continues to exist.

1. Log in as administrator in the virtual machine where App Volumes Manager is installed.

2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer and set DisableLoggingFromPackage to 0.

3. Delete the Logging value.

Performing these steps ensures that when you subsequently upgrade App Volumes Manager, the installer log generated has fewer details by default.
