Using Tags when Integrating App Volumes Manager with Azure Virtual Desktop

Some organizations have policies which require Azure resources to be tagged when synchronizing their applications with App attach packages. In App Volumes Manager, tags can be added for an App Volumes Manager integration with Azure Virtual Desktop. The tag format is a key-value pair.

You can use the Add App Volumes Integration page to add, update, or delete a tag for each App Volumes Manager and Azure Virtual Desktop integration. Multiple tags can be added for every integration, but the maximum number of tags that can be added is 50. Whenever an existing tag name or value is edited or a new tag is added to an existing integration, synchronization is automatically triggered for all applications regardless of their status (Active or Sync Failed).

Considerations when using tags

Be aware of the following:

  • If a tag which is already synchronized and associated with an App attach package, is removed from App Volumes Manager, then this tag is not automatically removed from the App attach package. Such a tag must be manually deleted from the App attach package in the Azure portal. There are various ways by which you can remove a tag: Azure portal, Azure CLI, Azure PowerShell, and so on. For more information about removing or deleting a tag, see the relevant Microsoft Documentation.

  • Tag management is controlled through App Volumes Manager:

    • If a tag is directly added in the Azure portal to the App attach package, then such a tag is not automatically synchronized with App Volumes Manager.

    • If the value of a tag which is directly added in the Azure portal to the App attach package differs from the value of the tag which is also specified for the integration in App Volumes Manager, then the tag value in the App Volumes Manager overrides the tag value in the Azure portal when the integration is synchronized.

    • Every tag must follow the key-value pair format. If a tag has only a key, then by default the value of the tag is empty.

    • Information about all tags added for an integration is displayed in the summary page of that integration.

To add a tag for an App Volumes integration with Azure Virtual Desktop, see Configure App Volumes Manager Integration with Azure Virtual Desktop.
