Overview of the Dynamic Environment Manager Deployment

Prepare your environment to meet the Dynamic Environment Manager infrastructure requirements, and then install and configure the Dynamic Environment Manager components.

  • Determine the mode that you want to deploy Dynamic Environment Manager in, standalone mode or integration mode. For standalone mode, create a Dynamic Environment Manager configuration share on a file server.
  • Create a Dynamic Environment Manager profile archives share.
  • Install FlexEngine on Windows desktops or Terminal Servers.
  • Create the Dynamic Environment Manager Group Policy by using the administrative template that is provided in the Dynamic Environment Manager package. If you have installed FlexEngine in NoAD Mode, provide the agent configuration settings in the NoAD.xml file.
  • Install the DEM Management Console on the administrator's machine.
  • Perform initial configuration of the DEM Management Console.

After you install and configure the Dynamic Environment Manager components, you can start managing personalization and application management settings by creating Flex configuration files. You can use the Dynamic Environment Manager Application Profiler to capture application settings in Flex configuration files.

Note: The Dynamic Environment Manager MSI file has a digital signature, which the Windows Installer infrastructure validates when the installation starts. The installation process includes a certificate revocation check for which the system requires Internet access. If the Internet connectivity is not sufficient, the installation continues, but only after several timeouts. During the process, the installer seems to hang without providing any feedback.
