Configure License in App Volumes Manager

After App Volumes Manager is installed, during configuration, an evaluation license for App Volumes is automatically installed and configured by default. When the evaluation license expires, a valid production license is required to continue using App Volumes. You can configure the production license in App Volumes Manager admin UI.

In the evaluation mode, only three applications and one Writable Volume can be assigned to a user. After 90 days, when the evaluation license expires, the user cannot access these applications and the Writable Volume. To continue using App Volumes, a production license must be configured in App Volumes Manager admin UI. This production license allows you to deliver unlimited number of applications to the end user.

App Volumes uses key-based licensing (add a production license key) in addition to the existing file-based licensing (upload a production license key file) mechanism. If you have used file-based licensing, you can continue using this license information. However, it is recommended that you plan to migrate to key-based licensing because support for file-based licensing is going to be eventually discontinued in a later App Volumes release.

In the key-based licensing mechanism, you must add an alpha-numeric value, 35 characters long, in the following format: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx. License key and the license file are available at the Omnissa License Management portal.

Note: After using key-based licensing, you cannot go back to file-based licensing mechanism. If you have issues with key-based licensing, reach out to Omnissa Support.

Use Omnissa Apps Essentials License Key

To use the Local Copy package access mode where App Volumes Manager is used for application life cycle management, the Omnissa Apps Essentials License key is required. You can also use the Shared Storage package access mode with this license.

If you turn on the Generate MSI when creating VHD package general setting without the Omnissa Apps Essentials license key, the following message is displayed: Your current license does not include MSI generation. A similar message, Your current license does not include Local Copy Package Access Mode, is also recorded in the System Messages window in the ACTIVITY tab. These messages continue to get displayed until the Omnissa Apps Essentials license key is configured. However, you can continue using the Local Copy package access mode, generate the MSI-wrapped VHD, and deliver applications to the Windows endpoint without the Omnissa Apps Essentials license key.

Note: The Users and Computers count displayed in the License Information page depends on the type of license key uploaded in App Volumes Manager. When the existing Omnissa App Volumes License is replaced with the Omnissa Apps Essentials License key, then the count displayed is as per the Omnissa Apps Essentials License.

Prerequisites

Ensure that you have the required license information from the Omnissa License Management portal.

Procedure

1. From the App Volumes Manager console, click CONFIGURATION > License.

2. Click EDIT.

3. Depending on the licensing mechanism, either enter the serial key or upload the App Volumes License File.

4. Click Upload.

   If you use the key-based licensing mechanism, then the App Volumes License File box is no longer available in the App Volumes admin UI as the serial key takes precedence.
