Configure Lock Key Synchronization on Horizon Windows Client

You can configure Omnissa Horizon Client to synchronize the toggle states of the Num Lock, Scroll Lock, and Caps Lock keys from the client system to a remote desktop by enabling a setting in Horizon Client. This setting is disabled by default.

For administrators - you can also use the Horizon Client Automatically synchronize the keypad, scroll and caps lock keys group policy setting to configure lock key synchronization. When this group policy setting is enabled or disabled, users cannot change the lock key synchronization setting in the Horizon Client user interface. For more information, see Using Group Policy Settings to Configure Horizon Windows Client. If the Automatically synchronize the keypad, scroll and caps lock keys group policy setting is either disabled or not configured, or the Horizon Client lock key synchronization setting is not selected (the default setting), the lock key toggle state is synchronized from the remote desktop to the client system by default

For end users - if an administrator has configured lock key synchronization, you cannot change the lock key synchronization setting in Horizon Client. If an administrator has not configured lock key synchronization, or the Horizon Client lock key synchronization setting is not selected, the lock key toggle state is synchronized from the remote desktop to the client system by default.

Procedure

  1. Start Horizon Client and connect to a server.

  2. Open the Settings dialog box for the remote desktop.

    • Click the Settings (gear) icon in the upper-right corner of the desktop and application selection window and select the remote desktop in the left pane.
    • Right-click the remote desktop in the desktop and application selection window and select Settings.
  3. To enable the lock key synchronization feature, toggle the Automatically synchronize the keypad, scroll and cap lock keys option to on.

Lock Key Synchronization for Linux VDI Sessions

Lock key synchronization is supported for Linux VDI sessions. The synchronization behavior for Linux VDI sessions depends on the Horizon Client Automatically synchronize the keypad, scroll and caps lock keys group policy setting.

When the group policy setting is enabled: The client acts as the master for lock key states. At session start and throughout the session, the client's physical keyboard lock key states (CapsLock, NumLock, ScrollLock) are pushed one-way from the client to the Linux VDI, overriding the VDI state. This ensures the VDI always matches the user's physical keyboard. No synchronization occurs from the VDI back to the client.

When the group policy setting is disabled or not configured:

  • Client to VDI: No automatic state sync occurs. Keystrokes are forwarded as normal key press events. The Linux VDI manages its own lock key state independently.
  • VDI to client: When lock keys are toggled inside the Linux VDI, the corresponding LED on the user's physical keyboard reflects that state while the user has active focus on the VDI window. When the user clicks away or loses focus, the physical keyboard LED restores to the client's original state.
