Understanding Assignment Types

When assigning an App Volumes application to an entity, you can use assignment types to deliver the latest or specific version of an application package. Additionally, you can also deliver multiple packages to the entity which also includes the CURRENT package. This capability allows an end user to choose the desired version of an application when they launch the application.

Assignment Types

  • Marker

The application package marked as CURRENT is assigned to the entity. CURRENT implies that the entity always receives the latest version of the application package.

  • Package

A specific version of the application package is assigned to the entity. The entity receives only this assigned version.

  • Multiple

Multiple application packages and the CURRENT package of an application can be assigned to the entity at the same time. This assignment type is for packages delivered as on-demand. With this assignment type, end users get the option to choose the desired version of an application when they launch the application.

Before you use the multiple package assignments for on-demand delivery functionality, you must have an understanding of how the functionality behaves, follow some prerequisites, and be aware of a few considerations. For more information in this regard, see Understanding Multiple Assignments (Technical Preview).
