An administrator can assign an application with multiple packages and the CURRENT package to an entity. As a result, end users can choose the application version they want when they start the application.
Considerations for using multiple package assignments for on-demand delivery
-
Only packages configured with
On-demanddelivery mode are available for multiple package assignments.
If aClassicdelivery mode package is selected, then assignment creation is not allowed. For more information about package delivery modes, see Understanding Package Delivery Modes in App Volumes. -
The application used for multiple package assignments functionality must have a package set with the
CURRENTmarker and this package is selected by default for entity assignment.
Whenever required, you can set theCURRENTmarker to another package after assignment creation. -
Application icon of the
CURRENTpackage is delivered to the end user at the time of user login. Ensure that the assigned application has a package set with theCURRENTmarker even before you use the multiple package assignment functionality.
For information about how to set theCURRENTmarker on a package, see Set the CURRENT Marker on an App Volumes Package. -
The application assigned to the entity can have a maximum of 5 packages including the
CURRENTpackage.
NOTE: Multiple package assignment for on-demand delivery is not available in a multi-session environment.
Assigning applications with multiple package versions
To assign an application with multiple package versions along with the CURRENT package, you can select the Multiple assignment type in the Assign Application page. When this check box is selected, all available packages for that application including the CURRENT package are listed. By default, the CURRENT package is always selected for the assignment.
After selecting the rest of the required packages and confirming the assignment, multiple packages are added to the application assignment at the same time. If the application is already assigned to the entity and the package is not present in the current assignment, then the entity assignment is updated, and the package is removed.
For information about creating an application assignment, see Assign an App Volumes Application to an Entity. For information about different assignment types, see Understanding Assignment Types.
What happens when the end user logs into the agent computer
The application icon of the CURRENT package is delivered to the end user at the time of user login. When the user clicks the icon, a version selection window pops up which lists the application versions as per the entity assignment in App Volumes Manager.
If the user selects a different version, then the application icon is updated to match the selected version and the corresponding application version is delivered to the end user. The application version remains the same as the selected version for the rest of the user session. Subsequently even if the user clicks the same application icon, the version selection window does not pop-up. However if the user closes the pop-up window without selecting a different version, then the next time the user clicks the same application icon within the same session, the selection window pops up again.
The selection window also pops up if the user logs out, logs in, and clicks the same application icon.
