Session handling is a part of Schedule Push Image for farms and pools. There are differences with how the minimum number of ready (provisioned) machines are handled during Instant Clone maintenance operations. This depends on whether there are active sessions or no active sessions and the user logoff behavior at the time of maintenance. You select user logoff behavior at the time of maintenance, Wait for users to log off or Force users to log off, on the Schedule Maintenance Setting screen in Schedule Push Image.
The following examples describe the differences when there are active sessions and no active sessions on an instant clone farm with three RDS hosts and two as the Minimum Number of Ready (Provisioned) machines during Instant Clone maintenance operations.
Active Sessions
The two Minimum Number of Ready (Provisioned) machines will be preserved during Instant Clone Engine maintenance operations when there are active sessions.
Example: When two machines with active user sessions are available and the third is not available, the two available machines will remain preserved while their sessions are active.
If one user logs out, the Push Image operation will immediately start on that machine. This will leave only one machine available, which ignores the two Minimum Number of Ready (Provisioned) machines setting (rule) for the farm or pool.
No Active Sessions
The two Minimum Number of Ready (Provisioned) machines will be preserved during Instant Clone Engine maintenance operations. The Push Image operation runs on only one machine at a time to keep the other two available in a three RDS host farm scenario.
Example: When the first machine is actively performing the Push Image operation, the other two will remain available to preserve the two Minimum Number of Ready (Provisioned) machines setting (rule).
Once the first machine successfully completes the Push Image operation and returns to the available state, the second machine will begin the Push Image operation, leaving the first and third machines available to satisfy the minimum requirement.
