Monitoring and Troubleshooting in Horizon Console

You can use a variety of procedures for monitoring, diagnosing, and fixing problems that you might encounter when using Horizon 8. You can use Horizon Help Desk Tool for monitoring and troubleshooting, use other troubleshooting procedures to investigate and correct problems, or obtain assistance Technical Support.

For information about troubleshooting desktops and desktop pools, see the Desktops and Applications in Horizon 8 document.

Monitor Security Advisories in Horizon Console

Horizon Console displays security advisory notifications for the Horizon 8 server products you are running. Connection Server periodically polls the Omnissa Connect (CXP) advisory endpoint with your deployed product and version information and provides the results to Horizon Console. When a security advisory applies to a product or version you have deployed, Horizon Console displays a banner notification and a list of advisory details.

This feature covers the following products:

  • Unified Access Gateway (UAG)
  • Horizon Agent
  • Enterprise Connection Server

Prerequisites

  • Verify that you are logged in with full administrator privileges. The Security advisories page, and the advisory banner, are available only to administrators with this privilege.
  • Verify that the machine running the browser you use for Horizon Console can reach the Omnissa Connect host connect.omnissa.com. Horizon Console retrieves advisory content directly from this host. If your environment restricts outbound access, add this host to the allowed list.

How Security Advisory Polling Works

Connection Server polls the CXP advisory endpoint every 4 hours, supplying the deployed product code or codes and version or versions. The polling runs automatically in the background. No manual action is required to trigger advisory checks.

The CXP advisory endpoint is an unauthenticated API that returns only advisory metadata. No sensitive data is transmitted in the request beyond the product code and version.

Console States for Security Advisories

Horizon Console displays one of the following states after each advisory check.

StateDescription
Advisory presentIf the response contains advisories, the console displays a banner notification and a list of advisory details, including product name, version, severity, published date, description, CVE identifier, CVSS score, and OMSA identifier. Each advisory includes a link to the Omnissa security response page for remediation guidance.
No advisoriesIf the response is "clear," the console displays "No advisories." No banner notification is shown.
Advisory check failedIf the endpoint is unreachable or returns an error, the console displays "Advisory check failed." This state occurs when Connection Server has no internet connectivity or the CXP advisory endpoint returns a non-success response code.

Viewing Security Advisories in Horizon Console

  1. Log in to Horizon Console.
  2. If a security advisory banner is displayed, click the banner to open the Security Advisory section.
  3. You can also navigate to the Security Advisory section directly in Horizon Console.
  4. Review the advisory details, including product name, version, severity, published date, description, CVE identifier, CVSS score, and OMSA identifier.
  5. Follow the advisory link to the Omnissa security response page to assess and remediate.

Security Advisories in Air-Gapped Environments

If Connection Server does not have internet connectivity, Horizon Console displays a message indicating that the security advisory content cannot be accessed. The advisory section shows an empty grid with a banner stating that the advisory server is unreachable.
