Understanding Assignment Types

In App Volumes, you can assign an application to an entity based on the marker set on a package or a specific package version. If you want the end user to have an option to select the required application version, then you can choose the assignment type where both multiple marker and package options are available when assigning to the entity.

When assigning an Omnissa App Volumes application to an entity, you can use assignment types to deliver the latest or specific version of an application package. Additionally, you can also deliver multiple packages to the entity which also includes the CURRENT package. This capability allows an end user to choose the application version they want when they run the application.

Assignment Types

  • Marker

All available markers (custom and CURRENT) are listed. If the selected marker is not yet associated with the package, then the assignment is not available until you set the marker on the package. For more information about markers, see Understand App Volumes Markers.

  • Package

A specific version of the application package is assigned to the entity. The entity receives only this version.

  • Multiple

Multiple markers and packages can be assigned to the entity at the same time. However, ensure that at least one package has the CURRENT marker set on a package. This assignment type is for packages delivered as on-demand. With this assignment type, end users get the option to choose the application version they want when they run the application.

Before you use the multiple package assignments for on-demand delivery functionality, you must have an understanding of how the functionality behaves, follow some prerequisites, and be aware of a few considerations. For more information in this regard, see Understanding Multiple Assignments.
