Workspace ONE UEM offers comprehensive mobility management for ChromeOS devices, providing solutions for enrollment, security, configuration, and management. It is ideal for use cases such as remote workforces, kiosks, dedicated devices, or shared devices. The management process is primarily cloud-based, with all policy and app management executed through server-to-server API interactions with Google. Workspace ONE UEM pushes policies to Google Cloud, which then delivers them to the devices. Google Cloud also provides feedback on the success or failure of these policy and app deployments, which is displayed in the Workspace ONE UEM console.
ChromeOS Management Versions for Workspace ONE UEM
Currently, there are two ways to integrate ChromeOS with Workspace ONE UEM:
- The default management method is the Chrome Management solution that uses Chrome Policy APIs. This version supports both Chrome Enterprise and Chrome EDU. For more information on the default management method, see Using ChromeOS Devices with Chrome Policy API (Default Management Method).
- For customers that use older versions of Workspace ONE UEM, 2302 or earlier versions, their ChromeOS devices still operate under the Chrome Management Partner Access API management method. This is the first generation of cloud-based device management solution. Workspace ONE UEM Organization Groups registered with ChromeOS EMM prior to 2302 will continue to use the Chrome Management Partner Access APIs. Newly registered Organization Groups follows the Chrome Policy API solution.
