Creating an Account for Capacity Provider Management

Omnissa Horizon 8 connects to one or more infrastructure management platforms to provision and manage the virtual machines that back your desktop and application pools. The account type and required privileges depend on which platform you use as a capacity provider.

Horizon 8 currently supports the following management platforms:

• VMware vCenter Server
• Nutanix Prism Central

VMware vCenter Server

You can use one of the following accounts to connect to vCenter from Omnissa Horizon Console.

• Microsoft Active Directory user account
• vCenter Single Sign-On domain account

You must give the account privileges to perform certain operations in vCenter Server. Create a vCenter Server role with the appropriate privileges and assign that role to the account. The specific privileges depend on whether you use Horizon 8 instant clones:

Nutanix Prism Central

To use Nutanix Prism Central as a Horizon 8 capacity provider, create a Prism Central service account. This is a native Prism Central account, not an Active Directory or vCenter SSO account. The service account must have sufficient privileges for Horizon 8 to perform operations in Prism Central.

Create a custom role in Prism Central with the required permissions, and assign that role to the service account. You then specify this service account when you add the Prism Central capacity provider to Horizon 8.
