You can use the Screen Capture feature to take screenshots of your Windows remote desktop, including setups with multiple monitors. When you activate the feature through the GPO setting, a Print Screen icon appears on the title bar of the remote desktop.
When activated, one of the following occurs:
- Horizon 2506 and later: If the client is connected to multiple monitors and in multi-monitor mode, clicking the Screen Capture icon opens a popover on the client. This popover displays live thumbnails of each connected screen, allowing you to select which screen to capture.
- In all other cases, such as single-monitor setups, windowed mode, or duplicate/mirrored display mode, the feature automatically captures the entire screen image without any prompt.
Captured images are generated and stored on the remote desktop (agent) in your Pictures folder as .png files. The image then automatically opens using the system’s default application for .png files on the Agent.
Note: On Windows, it's recommended to set MSPaint as the default .png application to enable quick editing or cropping of the captured image.
The screen capture works independently of any screen capture blocking settings and is compatible with:
- Multiple monitors display and resolution
- Multimedia Redirection (MMR)
- Microsoft Teams redirection
- Watermarks
Windows agents and Windows and Mac clients are supported.
If you're unable to capture screens within your Horizon environment, your organization's security settings may be restricting this feature. Contact your IT administrator for more information.
Using Group Policy Settings to Configure Screen Capture
Activate the screen capture feature by editing the group policy setting. See View Agent Configuration ADMX Template Settings. Changes take effect at the subsequent login.
