Device and User Friendly Name Settings

As the admin, you determine how the device friendly name in the Workspace ONE UEM console is configured. Friendly Name is the label devices use in the console and is meant to help you differentiate devices of the same make and model.

Configure Friendly Name settings by navigating to Groups & Settings > All Settings > Devices & Users > General > Friendly Name.

What can you do with the Workspace ONE UEM Friendly Name settings page?

The Friendly Name settings page allows you to:

• Decide if you want to use friendly names to identify devices.

  • The entry "Patel's Galaxy" in the Device List can be much more useful in identifying that device than the longer entry "Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G Android 11 R6YH".
  • Consider also the appearance of your Device List View when all devices are populated. You will be tasked with finding a specific device from the listing. Using friendly names can make that task easy.

• Decide if you want to use lookup values to standardize friendly names. Lookup values are variables that represent a data element of a device, user, or admin account.

  • A common friendly name format made with lookup values is

    {EnrollmentUser} {DeviceModel} {DeviceOperatingSystem} {DeviceSerialNumberLastFour}
    

• Decide if you want to enable the option of making the device name equal to the friendly name.

Determine your Organizational group hierarchy

Before you review and modify settings, understand the two types of inheritance/override options for the organization group hierarchy available at the top and bottom of the settings page and determine your choices. For more information about these settings, see Override Versus Inherit Setting for Organization Groups.

• Current Setting – Select whether to Inherit or Override the displayed settings. Inherit means use the settings of the current organization group's parent OG, while Override enables the settings for editing so you can modify the current OG's settings directly.

• Child Permission – Select the available behavior of child organization groups that exist below the currently selected organization group. Inherit only means child OGs are only allowed to inherit these settings. Override only means they override the settings, and Inherit or Override means you can choose to inherit or override settings in child OGs that exist below the currently selected OG.
