Understanding the thinreg.exe Utility

The thinreg.exe utility registers captured applications in the underlying operating system.

You can implement the thinreg.exe utility for either the centralized or decentralized mode of deployment. The default location of the thinreg.exe utility is at the ThinApp installation folder. For more information about the ThinApp installation folder, see ThinApp Installation Files.

Registering a Omnissa ThinApp package performs the following tasks:

• Creates shortcuts so that the application entry points appear in the Start menu and on the desktop.
• Creates file type and protocol associations that allow users to open applications.
• Creates entries in Add or Remove programs in the Control Panel.
• Unregisters previously registered packages.

The ThinApp MSI package includes the thinreg.exe utility. You can manually run the thinreg.exe utility from a command line, script, or login script to automate the registration of application shortcuts.
