You must entitle users to published desktops and applications before the users can access the desktops and applications.
Note: Entitlement behavior depends on whether the Remote Desktop Session Host (RDSH) role is installed:
- RDSH installed: Published desktops and applications are entitled through Remote Desktop Services (RDS) Session Collection and RD Web Access publishing. This requirement applies to any supported Windows Server version running the RDSH role, including Windows Server 2016, 2019, and 2022, not just a specific release.
- RDSH not installed: Horizon Agent Direct-Connection Plug-In uses the single-user desktop entitlement model. In this configuration, entitlement is determined solely by membership in the local View Agent Direct-Connection Users group.
Desktop Entitlements
To entitle a user to launch a published desktop:
- Ensure that the user is a member of the local group View Agent Direct-Connection Users. By default, all authenticated users are members of this group.
- If the system is configured as an RDSH server, run Server Manager and navigate to Remote Desktop Services to configure desktop publishing and user entitlements through an RDS Session Collection. Deploy the RDSH role using the appropriate deployment wizard for your Windows Server version (Windows Server 2016, 2019, or 2022).
Application Entitlements
To entitle a user to launch an application:
- Ensure that the user is a member of the local group View Agent Direct-Connection Users. By default, all authenticated users are members of this group.
- If the system is configured as an RDSH server, run Server Manager and navigate to Remote Desktop Services to publish applications through an RDS Session Collection and configure application access. This requirement applies to any supported Windows Server version running the RDSH role (Windows Server 2016, 2019, or 2022).
