Device and User Advanced Bulk Management Settings

As a Workspace ONE UEM admin, you determine the maximum number of devices that can be affected by a bulk management action that you and other admins make. Next to each action, enter the maximum number of allowable device changes that you want to occur at once.

Configure bulk action settings by navigating to Groups & Settings > All Settings > Devices & Users > Advanced > Bulk Management.

What can you do with the Workspace ONE UEM Bulk Management settings page?

The Bulk Management settings page allows you to:

• Select a reasonable maximum number of devices that are appropriate for the action.

  • For example, the Query action is asking the device to "report in." Query has a low risk in terms of the potential effect it has on the device. So the maximum number of devices you select for the Query can be large.

• However, an action like Device Wipe carries a very high risk to the device itself. The maximum number of devices that can be wiped by you and other admins must be a number that you are comfortable with. Because Device Wipe and Enterprise Wipe are such large risks, you can configure a safeguard called Wipe Protection, which is independent of the maximums you select here.

Why are some actions unavailable when I select devices in the Device List View?

The actions available for a bulk operation depend on how you select devices in the Device List View.

When you select devices individually (using the checkboxes or by shift-selecting a range), Workspace ONE UEM evaluates every device in your selection and displays only the actions that all selected devices support. This applicability check is why an action such as 'Change to Multi-User' appears for a manually selected set of capable devices. Similarly, if your Warm Boot maximum is set to 1000 and you select 500 devices to warm boot, if even one device out of the 500 selected does not support remote warm booting, the bulk action option will not be available to select.

When you use Select All, Workspace ONE UEM does not run this applicability check. Evaluating every device in a large selection can cause the console to time out, so Select All instead offers a predefined set of actions:

• Send Message and Delete Device are always available.
• Query and Lock Device are available only when unenrolled devices are excluded from the current view.
• iOS Update is available only when the view is filtered to Apple devices.

Other actions are not offered through Select All, regardless of the filters applied to the view.

To run an action that is not in the Select All set against a large, filtered group of devices, select the devices manually (for example, shift-select the devices on each page) so that the applicability check runs and the action becomes available.

The maximum device counts you configure on this page apply in addition to these behaviours, and also apply to bulk operations performed through the Workspace ONE UEM APIs.
