Activate a Subscription License in Horizon 8 Without a Horizon Edge

You can activate your subscription license for a Horizon 8 deployment before you deploy a Horizon Edge, or even without ever deploying a Horizon Edge. Though eventually deploying a Horizon Edge for a Horizon 8 deployment is a preferred practice, it is not a required practice.

If you choose to activate your subscription license in a Horizon 8 deployment that does not currently have a Horizon Edge Gateway deployed, initiate the process in Horizon 8. To perform the steps on Horizon Console in Horizon 8, see this Horizon 8 topic for the procedure.

Important: Subscription licenses activated without a Horizon Edge Gateway are valid for 105 days. To prevent service disruption, you must reactivate your licenses at least once within this window. If the 105-day limit is exceeded, the Horizon Console in Horizon 8 enters degraded (read-only) mode, preventing any changes. In this situation, where administrator access to the Horizon Console becomes read-only, end-user sessions will continue uninterrupted provided that the Horizon Connection Server version is 8.12.2 (2312.2) or later. End-user sessions will be impacted for Horizon Connection Server versions 8.12.1 (2312.1) or earlier.

1. If you are a new Horizon customer, sign in to Omnissa Connect or create an account and organization.

   In the following section, see Log in to Omnissa Connect.

2. On the Services page, click Launch Service for Workspace ONE Cloud.

3. From Workspace ONE, launch Horizon Cloud

1. If you are a new Horizon customer, use the Horizon Universal Console to select your Horizon Cloud region, save, and log in.

2. If you have multiple organizations, in the Horizon Universal Console, click your name and select the correct organization for this license.

Prerequisites

For this task, access the Horizon Console from a machine that has internet access to the following URLs:

• https://connect.omnissa.com/

• https://cloud.horizon.omnissa.com/hcsadmin

• https://ws1-csp-prod.workspaceair.com/

Procedure

1. Go to the Horizon Console and select the checkbox for the following statement:

   I confirm that I am signed in to the Horizon Universal Console and using the correct organization for this license.

2. Click Next.

   Result: You advance to Step 2: Activate License

3. Click Start Activation to initiate a connection between Horizon 8 and the Horizon Universal Console.

   Result: The Horizon Universal Console automatically opens in a new browser tab and displays the Subscriptions page.

4. Click Activate License on the Subscriptions page of the Horizon Universal Console.

   Result:

   1. A banner message appears stating successful subscription license activation. The browser window closes automatically in five seconds and redirects back to the Horizon Console in Horizon 8.

   2. A banner message stating license activated manually displays in the Horizon Console in Horizon 8. The license last activated date and license activation expiration date values are updated.
