The Omnissa Horizon portfolio consists of two main virtual desktop and application platforms with additional management products that can be used in conjunction with these platforms to efficiently and securely deliver virtual desktops and applications to end users across many different deployment scenarios.
The two main virtual desktop and application platforms are Omnissa Horizon 8 and Omnissa Horizon Cloud Service:
Horizon 8
This platform was previously called "View", "Horizon 7", "Horizon Enterprise", or "Horizon". It's primarily a customer-managed desktop and application platform.
Horizon 8 integrates with vSphere and Nutanix AHV to provision and deliver virtual desktops and applications. You can deploy these on-premises or in public clouds. Also, Horizon 8 integrates with Amazon WorkSpaces Core to provision and deliver desktops and applications.
Service providers can use Horizon 8 to build their own Desktop as a Service (DaaS) offerings. Also, Horizon 8 manual pools and manual farms can be used to deliver access to workloads running on many other hypervisors or native cloud platforms.
Horizon Cloud
This DaaS platform is an Omnissa-managed solution, providing cloud management and delivery of virtual desktops and applications to cloud environments. It supports the Microsoft Azure native cloud environment, Microsoft Windows 365, and Amazon WorkSpaces Core.
In addition, Omnissa offers Omnissa Horizon Control Plane (a cloud-based control plane) and Horizon Control Plane SaaS Services (its associated SaaS services). Horizon Control Plane and Horizon Control Plane SaaS Services are built as part of Horizon Cloud. They support Horizon 8 and Horizon Cloud DaaS services. For Horizon 8 deployments, SaaS licenses can unlock Horizon Control Plane and its optional SaaS services. For Horizon Cloud DaaS deployments, Horizon Control Plane is the default GUI for administrators to manage their environment.
Horizon Agent and Omnissa Horizon Clients are common or shared across the two platforms. Additional products in the Horizon portfolio such as Omnissa App Volumes, Omnissa Dynamic Environment Manager, and Omnissa Access support both platforms in similar ways.
The remainder of this document will introduce each platform, the control plane and associated SaaS services, and the key elements that are common to both platforms.
