Selectively Activate App Links for an App Volumes Application

In App Volumes Manager, you can select which App Links to activate so that only active App Links are used by third-party systems to publish App Volumes applications when integrated with App Volumes. This capability allows administrators to control App Links within App Volumes Manager and use only those that are necessary for publishing applications.

In earlier versions, all App Links generated for an App Volumes application are sent to third-party systems such as Horizon, Workspace ONE, Azure Virtual Desktop, and so on. As a result, administrators have to manage even the unwanted App Links in these third-party systems. Starting with this version, the ability to selectively activate App Links allows administrators to manage only required App Links in third-party systems.

How App Links are used in managing package shortcuts

App Links can also be used to manage package shortcuts effectively. Each package can have multiple shortcuts, and more than one package can share the same shortcut. One App Link gets generated for every shortcut. Therefore, an App Link can be associated with more than one package. If the CURRENT marker is changed from one package to another, an administrator can ensure that the shortcuts of the CURRENT package continue to be delivered by activating the App Links that are associated with these shortcuts.

Activate an App Link for an App Volumes Application

By default, all App Links are in the Active status when they are generated. To activate or deactivate App Links, Mark Active and Mark Inactive buttons can be used in the App Volumes Manager admin UI. Depending on which button is used, the Status column shows whether an App Link is Active or Inactive.

Note: When multiple App Volumes instances are configured for application synchronization, App Links can be activated or deactivated only in the source App Volumes Manager instance. To ensure that the status of App Links on both source and target instances remains synchronized, this capability is not available in the target instance.

Procedure

1. In the App Volumes Manager admin UI, navigate to INVENTORY > Applications.

2. Navigate to the details page of the application you want.

3. In this page, navigate to the App Links table.

   1. To view the shortcut associated with each App Link, expand an App Link, make note of the Entry Point, and click the n Package link.

      where n indicates the number of packages associated with that specific App Link.

      Result: The Package Details page opens.

   2. In the Package Details page, go to the Shortcuts table and locate the Entry Point that matches with the Entry Point in the App Links table.

4. Select the check box for the required App Link and click Mark Active.

   Result: App Link status changes to Active.

5. (Optional) To deactivate the App Link, click Mark Inactive.

   Result: App Link status changes to Inactive.
