The Omnissa App Volumes Application Capture Command-Line Program is a standalone, Windows command line software program. Use this program to easily automate the process of capturing applications by working with packages outside of App Volumes Manager console. Later, the captured applications can be delivered to users in a virtual desktop infrastructure or directly to Windows endpoints.
This program allows you to capture application installs into a .vhd package. In addition to the .vhd package, the program also generates a .json file which has the metadata for the generated package. It is possible to convert existing application package formats to another format using the convert command and /format parameter.
Note: To generate a .vhd package from a .vmdk application package which is captured using App Volumes Manager, the .vmdk package must be converted to monolithic sparse (workstation) .vmdk and then the convert command can be used.
You can also use the program to test and validate the captured application package and then deliver the package to end users.
When delivering the packages to users in a virtual desktop infrastructure environment, the .vhd and .vmdk formats are used along with the .json file. You must manually transfer these application packages into App Volumes Manager, import the packages into the Admin UI, assign, and deliver the packages to end users.
When delivering the packages to Windows endpoints using device management tools such as Omnissa Workspace ONE UEM, Microsoft Intune, or Microsoft Configuration Manager (SCCM), the .msi format is used. If you want to use your own delivery method, then the .vhd format can be used and applications can be installed using PowerShell commandlets.
Note: App Volumes Manager is not required in this delivery scenario.
