Import an Application to App Volumes

You can use the import functionality to reuse application packages created outside the current App Volumes Manager deployment. If you have created an application package in another App Volumes Manager deployment or created a package using the Application Capture Command-Line program, you can import the files of this package to the current deployment.

After importing the application package to the current App Volumes Manager deployment, you can perform the assign and attach activities.

MSIX application packages

You can also import an MSIX app attach format to App Volumes. Only a single MSIX application package can be present within an MSIX app attach format. The MSIX app attach format requires Windows 10, version 2004 or later.

Note: For now, you cannot use App Volumes Manager to either create or update the MSIX app attach format.

Ensure that you deliver an MSIX package having Windows services to an end user with administrative privileges only. Without these privileges, MSIX package registration fails as packaged services (Windows services in MSIX package) require administrative privileges.

The VM where MSIX packages are delivered must be installed with Windows.AppRuntime.1.4 with version 4000.1010.1349.0 (present in Windows App SDK 1.4.2) or later for MSIX packages, which are packaged with MSIX packaging tool released in February, 2024 or later.
Note: MSIX package registration fails when anything other than Windows.AppRuntime.1.4 is used. (For example: Windows.AppRuntime.1.5 (Windows App SDK 1.5.x) cannot be used.)

For more information about MSIX, see the relevant Microsoft documentation.
