Ensure a Deployed Horizon Cloud Pod's Gateway Configuration Inherits the Same NTP Server Setting as the Pod Manager Instances

This documentation page describes how to ensure an existing Horizon Cloud pod's gateway configuration inherits the same NTP server settings as specified for the pod manager instances.

Using the same NTP server for the pod manager instances, Unified Access Gateway instances, and your Active Directory servers is a best practice. Time skews can result when these instances use different NTP servers. Such time skews can later result in failures when the gateway attempts to authenticate end user sessions to their desktops and applications.

Starting from the October 20, 2022 service update, new gateway deployments have their Unified Access Gateway instances inherit the same NTP server setting as specified for the pod manager instances by default unless the Inherit Pod NTP Servers toggle was manually turned off during gateway deployment.

If your gateway was deployed prior to October 20, 2022 or was deployed with that toggle turned off, you can use these steps to ensure the Unified Access Gateway instances are set to inherit the same NTP server settings as specified for the pod managers.

Prerequisites

Verify the following items are in place:

• The pod has the deployed gateway configuration on which you want to perform these steps.
• If you are performing these steps on an external gateway that is deployed in its own VNet separate from the pod's VNet, ensure that the pod's NTP servers are reachable over the gateway deployment's VNet.

Procedure

1. From the pod's details page, open the Edit Pod window by clicking Edit.

2. In the Edit Pod window, click Next to move to the Gateway Settings step.

   This step has a section for the external gateway configuration and a section for the internal gateway configuration. The user interface reflects the pod's current configuration and the gateway settings it already has.

3. For each gateway type, either external or internal, locate the Inherit Pod NTP Servers toggle.

4. Ensure Inherit Pod NTP Servers is switched on.

5. Click Save & Exit.

Results

The system updates the NTP settings in the deployed gateway and sets those settings to match the pod managers' NTP server settings.
