Limited Availability: Upgrade Horizon Agent on macOS

Invite-Only Availability

Horizon 8 offers Horizon Agent for macOS with limited availability.

Horizon Agent for macOS is now production-ready and available through a Limited Availability(LA) program for Horizon 8. The software is available for download from Omnissa Customer Connect, with access currently provided on an invite-only basis.

To request access to the Limited Availability program, contact horizon-macos-request@omnissa.com, Omnissa sales representative, or Omnissa partner.

Upgrade Horizon Agent on a macOS machine by installing the latest version of the agent package

Before upgrading:

  • Confirm no Horizon sessions are active on the machine.
  • Confirm Horizon Connection Server is running and reachable.
  • Download the new Horizon Agent for macOS installer from Omnissa Customer Connect.
    • Have the Horizon Connection Server (broker) hostname or IP address available. You must submit the broker details again during the upgrade.

Upgrade Horizon Agent Interactively

  1. Open the downloaded Horizon Agent for macOS installer to mount its disk image.

  2. On the mounted volume, locate and run Install Horizon 8 Agent.app.

  3. Follow the prompts to complete the upgrade. When prompted, enter the Horizon Connection Server (broker) details again, as they are not retained from the original installation.

  4. Restart the machine when the installation completes.

  5. Confirm the agent service is running:

sudo launchctl list | grep omnissa

Silent Upgrade

To upgrade Horizon Agent silently, mount the new installer and run the installer application from the Terminal with the --silent argument.

  1. Open the downloaded Horizon Agent for macOS installer to mount its disk image.

  2. Open a Terminal window.

  3. Run the following command:

    sudo open /Volumes/Horizon\ Agent\ for\ macOS\ 1/Install\ Horizon\ 8\ Agent.app --args --silent

  4. Restart the machine when the installation completes.

MDM Profiles After Upgrade

MDM-deployed privacy permission profiles do not need to be redeployed after a Horizon Agent upgrade, provided the bundle identifier and code signing requirements remain the same. Confirm this with your MDM administrator after each upgrade.

On unmanaged devices where permissions were manually approved, users may need to re-approve permissions after upgrade if the agent's code signing identity changes. Check System Settings > Privacy & Security after upgrading.
