Managing Devices with Workspace ONE UEM

Manage devices in your fleet and perform functions on a particular set of devices with Workspace ONE UEM. Before you begin, confirm that your devices, operating systems, and administrator browsers are supported. This topic lists the current compatibility requirements for end-user devices (Android, iOS/iPadOS, macOS, Windows Desktop, Chrome OS, and Linux), on-premises server and infrastructure platforms, and the browsers used to access the administrator console.

Supported Operating Systems and Browsers on Workspace ONE UEM

This section provides comprehensive information about the supported operating systems, devices, and browsers for Omnissa Workspace ONE UEM. This section is designed to help you understand platform compatibility requirements for both managed endpoints and administrative infrastructure.

Supported End-User Devices

Workspace ONE UEM provides comprehensive management capabilities across a wide range of device types and operating systems.

Android

  • Android 8.0 and later
  • The primary enrollment modes for Android Enterprise are:
    • Work Profile (BYOD): Creates a secure container, separating work apps (indicated by a briefcase icon) from personal data on employee-owned devices.
    • Fully Managed (Corporate-Owned): These are devices that are solely used for work purposes and generally cannot be used for personal use.
    • Corporate Owned Personally Enabled (COPE): These are corporate-owned devices issued to employees and can be used for both work and personal use.
  • Workspace ONE supports both Custom DPC and AMAPI management methods to give customers flexibility based on business needs, device ownership models, and security requirements.
    • Custom DPC uses the Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub as the primary agent to apply policies.
    • AMAPI uses native Android OS functionality through the Google Cloud for management. AMAPI brings a more streamlined approach best suited for COPE (Corporate Owned Personally Enabled) or BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) setups.

Apple iOS and iPadOS

  • iOS/iPadOS 11.0 and later - iPhone devices - iPad devices - iPod Touch devices

macOS (Desktop Devices)

  • macOS 10.9 and later - MacBook
    - MacBook Pro - MacBook Air - iMac Pro - iMac - Mac Mini - Mac Pro

Windows Desktop

  • Windows 10 and 11 desktop devices
  • Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022, and 2025

Chrome OS

  • Workspace ONE UEM console 23.06 and later
  • Google Admin Console account with a verified domain and enabled with either a Chrome OS Enterprise upgrade or Chrome OS Education upgrade
  • In addition to the Chrome OS Enterprise or Education upgrade, you must also have available licenses in your Workspace ONE UEM account to manage Chrome OS devices

Linux

  • Linux distributions running on the following architectures: - x86_64 - ARM5 - ARM7 - ARM8

Server and Infrastructure Platforms

For on-premises Workspace ONE UEM deployments, the following server and infrastructure components are supported:

Windows Server

  • Windows Server 2016
  • Windows Server 2019
  • Windows Server 2022
  • Windows Server 2025

Use Case: Console, application server, and other UEM infrastructure components

Database Platform

  • SQL Server (64-bit Standard or Enterprise editions)
    • Used as the database backend for Workspace ONE UEM
    • Refer to the recommended architecture documentation for specific version requirements and configuration guidelines

Printer and IoT Devices

Workspace ONE UEM supports two distinct printer management modes. Use the mode that matches your printer fleet and management requirements.

Modern Printer Management (MQTT)

Modern printer management uses an MQTT-based communications protocol to manage printers and IoT devices directly.

  • Supported devices: Any Zebra device running LinkOS 6.7 or later is supported.
  • Management mode: Direct, cloud-based management over MQTT.
  • No legacy connector required.

Printer Management (non-MQTT, connector-based)

Non-MQTT printer management uses a connector to communicate with Zebra printers. This is a separate management mode with its own specifications, requirements, and supported device list.

  • Management mode: Connector-based
  • Supported devices: A defined set of Zebra printer models. See the table of supported legacy models in the Zebra Printer Management guide.

Supported Browsers

The following web browsers are supported for accessing the Workspace ONE UEM console, including both administrative interfaces and self-service portals.

Administrator Console Browsers

  • Google Chrome (latest stable version recommended)
  • Microsoft Edge (latest stable version recommended)
  • Mozilla Firefox (latest stable version recommended)
  • Safari (latest stable version recommended)

Best Practice: Always use the latest stable version of your preferred browser for optimal security, performance, and feature compatibility.

Important Notes

General Compatibility

  • Latest versions recommended: While minimum version requirements are specified, Omnissa recommends using the latest stable versions of operating systems and browsers for the best security and performance.
  • Feature availability: Some features may not be available on all platforms or OS versions. Consult the Workspace ONE UEM documentation for feature-specific requirements.
  • End-of-life considerations: Operating systems and browser versions that reach end-of-life status from their respective vendors may no longer receive support updates.

Mobile Device Management

  • Android Enterprise: Modern Android device management requires Android Enterprise enrollment for full feature support.
  • iOS/iPadOS: Apple's latest MDM features require recent iOS/iPadOS versions. Some features may require iOS 13.0 or later.

Infrastructure Requirements

  • On-premises deployments: Ensure that all server infrastructure meets the minimum requirements and follows Omnissa's recommended architecture guidelines.
  • Cloud deployments: Infrastructure requirements are managed by Omnissa for SaaS-based Workspace ONE UEM environments.

Browser Compatibility

  • JavaScript required: The Workspace ONE UEM console requires JavaScript to be enabled in your browser.
  • Cookie support: Browser cookies must be enabled for authentication and session management.
  • Pop-up blockers: Some console features may require allowing pop-ups from the UEM console domain.

You can examine the data flow with the Monitor and take a closer look at your fleet with Device Dashboard. You can group devices together and create customized lists with the Device List View. For details, see Device Dashboard and Device List View.
