Nutanix - Prepare a Golden Image for an Automated RDSH Farm

To create an Nutanix automated farm, a golden image Nutanix template must be prepared. Connection Server uses this golden image Nutanix template to create virtual machines, which are the RDS hosts in the farm.

Prerequisite

• Be sure not to use a virtual machine that was previously registered to Connection Server.

Procedure

1. Complete the process in Preparing a Golden Image.

2. Use a Windows Server 2016 or later image.

3. Configure the RDS role. For more information, see Setting Up Remote Desktop Services Hosts.

4. To create a Nutanix automated farm, you must select the Instant Clone option when you install Horizon Agent on the golden image virtual machine in order that the ClonePrep technology is installed. For more information, see Install Horizon Agent on a Remote Desktop Services Host.

5. Complete the next section to deactivate windows hibernation in the golden image.

Deactivate Windows Hibernation in the Golden Image

The Windows hibernation feature creates a hidden system file, Hiberfil.sys and uses this file to store information that is needed for hybrid sleep. Deactivating hibernation reduces the size of an instant clone's virtual disk.

Caution: When you make hibernation unavailable, hybrid sleep does not work. Users can lose data if a power loss occurs.

Procedure

1. In vSphere Client, select the golden image virtual machine and select Open Console.

2. Log in as an administrator.

3. Deactivate the hibernation option.

   1. Click Start and type cmd in the Start Search field.

   2. In the search results list, right-click Command Prompt and click Run as Administrator.

   3. At the User Account Control prompt, click Continue.

   4. At the command prompt, type powercfg.exe /hibernate off and press Enter.

   5. Type exit and click Enter.
