Unreachable VM After Creating a Manual Desktop Pool for Linux

The virtual machine state is not responding.

The virtual machine status might be Waiting for Agent or Unreachable after you create a Manual Desktop Pool.

There might be several user error configuration or setup causes for the virtual machine state to be Unreachable or Waiting for Agent.

  • Verify that the option machine.id exists in the virtual machine's vmx configuration file.

If it does not exist, then verify that the virtual machine was added to the desktop pool correctly. Else recreate the desktop pool to let the broker rewrite the option to the vmx configuration file.

  • Verify that the VMware Tools or Open VM Tool is installed correctly.

If the steps to install VMware Tools or Open VM Tool were not performed correctly, the RPC Tool utility might not exist under PATH in the Linux virtual machine. You must follow the guide to install VMware Tools or Open VM Tool.

VMware Tools and Open VM Tool provide the RPC Tool utility and its commands. After you finish installing, then you can run the RPC Tool command that lists the VM's machine.id from the VM's vmx configuration file. See the VMware Tools documentation at the Broadcom site at techdocs.broadcom.com.

  • Verify if the FQDN of the broker can be resolved to the IP Address in the agent Linux virtual machine.
