Monitoring Entities in App Volumes Manager

To view active entities and details about each entity, you can use the DIRECTORY tab in the App Volumes Manager UI. Entity types are Users, Computers, Groups, and OUs(Organizational Units).

When Active Directory is the registered domain, you can assign applications to all types of entities. With Entra ID, you can assign applications to Users, Groups, and Computers.

In the Entity page, you can view the list of corresponding entities and a summarized information about the number of assignments, attachments, and Writable Volumes for each entity. For Entra ID, the OU tab is not available and the Computers tab displays information about the Azure Virtual Desktop where the end user has logged into.

Note: Writable Volumes is not supported when Entra ID is the registered domain.

• In the DIRECTORY > Computers page, the Package Mode column indicates how an application package is accessed on a specific computer listed in the page. The column values are Shared Storage and Local Copy. For more information about package access modes, see Application Delivery Modes with App Volumes Manager section in the App Volumes Installation Guide at Omnissa Product Documentation. These settings are available only when the machine manager configuration is VHD In-Guest.

• The Attachments count for the Computer entity in the Computers page is a sum total of attached volumes to the computer. The volumes can be assigned to any entity (User, Computer, Group, and OU).

  However, Attachments count for the User entity on the Users page includes only the volumes assigned to the User.

  For example: Consider a notepad application assigned to a user and a video application assigned to a computer, system. If the user logs into system, then the Attachments count for the computer is 2 whereas for the user, the count is 1.

• For an application package delivered as On-demand to an entity, you can observe the change in the attachment and attachment count for the entity only when the end user launches the application's shortcut. For more information about this behavior, see the characteristics section in Understanding Package Delivery Modes in App Volumes.

• When multiple users have the same application package assignment and receive this application in a multi-session environment, package attachment on the DIRECTORY → COMPUTERS page is displayed for every user logged into the RDSH server. As a result, the attachment count is considered separately for every user.

• Using the Entity page, you can assign an application package to an entity and unassign an application package from an entity.

View Entities

In the App Volumes Entity details page, depending on the entity type, you can view the entity name, application assigned to the entity, list of packages attached to the entity, and Writable Volumes created for the entity.

Procedure

1. In the App Volumes Manager UI, navigate to DIRECTORY > Entity.

2. In the Entity page, view the list of entities displayed.

3. To view the entity details, click an entity name.

   For non-computer entities (Users, Groups, and OUs), the Application Assignments section also includes the computer prefix information.

   The computer prefix information is displayed when the Limit delivery for these assignments check box is selected when assigning an application to an entity. For more information about limit delivery, see Application Assignment to Specific Computers.

   Similarly, you can also unassign the attachment from the entity for a specific computer. The prefix of the computer name is displayed in the Computers column in the Application Assignments table. For more information about the Computers column, see View Assignments in App Volumes Manager.

Sync Entities

You can view the updated list of entities by using the Sync functionality. The Sync button synchronizes all entities with the registered domain.

Procedure

1. From App Volumes Manager, click DIRECTORY.

2. Click the Entity tab that you want.

3. Click Sync.

4. On the Confirm Sync window, click Sync.

Use the Entity Page for Application Assignment

You can use this page to assign an App Volumes application to an entity and unassign an application from an entity when the application is already packaged and you need to perform only assign or unassign operations.

To perform assign and unassign operations when an application is not yet packaged, see Assign an App Volumes Application to an Entity and Unassign an Application from an Entity respectively.

When using this page to perform assign and unassign operations, you can be aware of the following additional information:

• From the Entity page, you can assign only application packages marked as CURRENT.

• If the application is in a synchronization relationship with the source instance and the assignment synchronization is activated, then you cannot perform the assign operation from this instance (target). Hence, the application is not displayed on this page.

  For more information about the criteria for assignment synchronization, see Criteria for Application Synchronization.

• When assigning an application, depending on your requirement, you can select the Limit delivery for these assignments check box with the assignment.

  Note: This check box is available only for non-computer entities (Users, Groups, and OUs).

  When this check box is selected, the Application Assignments section on the Entity details page displays the computer prefix information.

• When assigning an application, depending on your requirement, you can select the Do not deliver for these assignments at startup or login check box with the assignment.

  For more information about this check box, see Assign an App Volumes Application to an Entity.

Prerequisites

Ensure that the application is packaged.

Procedure

1. From App Volumes Manager, go to DIRECTORY > Entity.

   Entity details are displayed.

2. In the Entity page, click the entity name.

3. In the Entity details page, you can assign and unassign application packages for an entity:

   Option	Procedure
   Assign an application to an entity	Click Assign Application. Select the application you want. Click Assign.
   Unassign an application from an entity	Select an application and click Unassign. If the entity belongs to Users and has received this application as part of Groups or OUs, then you cannot unassign this application from the entity. If the application assignment has a value displayed in the Computers column, then this value indicates that the selected application assignment is removed from that computer only.
