Move Published Applications Between Farms

Starting with Horizon 8 2412 release, you can move published applications between farms.

This ability frees you from needing to recreate published applications in scenarios where you want to leverage a new farm to run those applications. For example, when you have a farm running a newer Windows Server version, you might move published applications over to that new farm from the original farm running an older Windows Server version.

This ability also provides the benefit of leaving the published applications unchanged, so that end-user shortcuts and favorites are preserved after the move to the new destination farm.

Prerequisites

• This feature requires a minimum of Horizon 8 2412 release.
• Both the source and destination farms must reside in the same Horizon 8 pod, and the pod must be running the minimum version of 2412 or later.
• Verify you have:
  • Published applications you want to move from one farm (the source farm)
  • Another farm (the destination farm) to which you want to move the applications

Move all applications from one farm to another

1. In Horizon Console, go to the inventory's Farms page and select the source farm.
2. From More Commands, select Migrate Applications.
3. Then follow the on-screen prompts to select the destination farm and complete the process. Only farms eligible as destinations for the source farm's applications are listed.

Note: When a farm is associated with an App Volumes Manager (to use Published Apps on Demand), applications can only be moved to another farm associated with the same App Volumes Manager.

Move specific applications from one farm to another

The Horizon Console provides two ways for moving specific applications between farms.

One way is to go to the inventory's Applications page, select the applications, then from More select Migrate Applications.

The other way is to navigate to the inventory's Applications > Applications Summary Page, then from More select Migrate Applications.

When using either way, after you select Migrate Applications, you follow the on-screen prompts to select the destination farm and complete the process.
