You will get improved performance for the client's Blast Extreme TCP traffic to the pod's Unified Access Gateway instances when port 8443 is used for the Blast Extreme TCP port. If a deployed gateway configuration is not already set to use port 8443 for its Blast Extreme TCP traffic, you can use the Edit Pod workflow to set the Blast Extreme TCP port to use port 8443.
The Blast Extreme TCP port is the port that the service's deployer sets in the Unified Access Gateway configuration's Blast External URL. To illustrate, when the gateway configuration was deployed with an FQDN specified as myuag.hcs.com and the Blast Extreme TCP Port menu set to 8443 in the deployer wizard, the deployer will set the gateway configuration's Blast External URL to be https://myuag.hcs.com:8443.
Important: Although the deployer wizard provides for setting the Blast Extreme TCP port to either 8443 or 443, the 8443 provides the highest performance and efficiency for the traffic between your end-user clients and the Unified Access Gateway instances. Port 8443 is the default in the deployer wizard and is the preferred choice to avoid CPU congestion from happening in the underlying Unified Access Gateway instances. Use of 443 should only be chosen if your organization's security team or firewall team has blocked use of 8443/TCP for traffic from your end-user clients and is only allowing 443 use.
Prerequisites
The pod must already have the gateway configuration for which you want to edit the Blast Extreme TCP port setting.
Procedure
-
From the pod's details page, open the Edit Pod window by clicking Edit.
-
In the Edit Pod window, click Next to move to the Gateway Settings step.
This step has a section for the external gateway configuration and a section for the internal gateway configuration. The user interface reflects the pod's current configuration and the gateway settings it already has.
-
Locate the Blast Extreme TCP Port menu for the gateway type for which you want to change it, either external or internal.
-
For Blast Extreme TCP Port, select 8443.
If the pod has another gateway type and you want to change its Blast Extreme TCP port, repeat this step for that other gateway.
-
Click Save & Exit.
Results
The system updates the Blast External URL in the pod's gateway configuration to use the Blast Extreme TCP Port specified in the Edit Pod workflow.
