Create and Manage Automated Full-Clone Desktop Pools

As described in Creating Desktop Pools in Horizon 8, an automated desktop pool provides a pool of identical virtual machines which are based on a particular starting point or source.

You create one of the supported starting points, and Horizon 8 uses that source to create virtual machine desktops.

For vSphere-based sources, depending on how you want the golden image to be managed, you can change the golden image and snapshot source in your pool from vCenter Server to Image Catalog or reverse. For the change to take effect, you must rebuild the virtual machine associated with the edited template source. For more information on the Image Management Service, see the Managing Horizon Images from the Cloud document.

As of the 2406 release, the supported sources are:

  • A vCenter Server virtual machine template or snapshot can be the starting point for an instant-clone desktop pool or full-clone virtual machine desktop pool
  • An Amazon WorkSpaces Core bundle can be the stating point for a full-clone virtual machine desktop pool. The use of Amazon WorkSpaces Core with automated desktop pools debuted in the Horizon 2406 release.
