Add an Image for OpenStack Platform9

After you have prepared the parent VM and taken a snapshot in your OpenStack Platform9 environment, register that snapshot as an image in the Horizon Universal Console.

Note: Horizon Cloud on OpenStack is currently available in Limited Availability (LA) mode only.

  1. Log in to Horizon Cloud.

  2. In the Horizon Universal Console, click Resources > Images.

  3. Click Add and from the drop-down menu, select Horizon Cloud > OpenStack > Platform9.

  4. Complete the General Information page and click Next.

    • Image Name - Enter a name for the image.
    • Description - Enter an optional description.
    • Markers - Select a marker to apply to the image. The default marker is selected by default. You can create new markers here.
  5. On the Image Source page, select Pre-built Platform9 snapshot and click Next.

    • This option registers a generalized snapshot that has been pre-built with the Horizon Agent and required applications installed.
    • Currently, Platform9 is the only available image source. Additional sources may be added in the future.
  6. On the Image Details page, complete the following fields and click Add.

    • Horizon Edge - From the drop-down, select the OpenStack Platform9 Horizon Edge that was created and connected in the earlier edge deployment steps.
    • Provider - From the drop-down, select the OpenStack Platform9 provider configured for the target Platform9 environment.
    • VM Snapshot - From the drop-down, select an OpenStack VM snapshot. These snapshots are created and customized by you in your OpenStack library. They are not created by Omnissa. Upon selection, the snapshot name and datastore are populated automatically.
    • OS - Select the operating system for the image. Supported operating systems are: Windows 11, Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2022, and Windows Server 2025.
    • GPU Type - Select the GPU type from the drop-down.
    • User Name - Enter the administrator user name for the VM.
    • Password - Enter the administrator password for the VM.
    • Confirm Password - Re-enter the administrator password.

Notes:

  • This is an import-only flow. There is no publish page. The import directly produces an available image.
  • VM snapshots come from your OpenStack library. You are responsible for all customization and generalization of the snapshot before registering it.
  • Only one snapshot can be used per image. If a snapshot is already associated with another image, you cannot reuse it. An error is returned and you must select a different snapshot.
  • Admin credentials have no restrictions. You can use your own user name and password, unlike Azure.
  • The same IMS API is used for OpenStack Platform9 images. There are no API changes.
