Creating and Using a Home Site

A home site is a relationship that you establish between an existing site and an existing user or user group in Horizon Cloud. After you create a home site for a user or group, the home site becomes the default search site when entitling desktops and applications for that user or group to a pool group where the Site connection affinity is set to Home Site.

For example, when you entitle desktops by using the Desktop and Apps Catalog option in Horizon Universal Console, the service begins searching at the nearest site to that user by default. However, by specifying a home site for that user and selecting Home Site for the Site connection affinity setting in the pool group, the service begins searching for desktops and applications from the user's associated home site rather than from another site such as their current location.

If a user that is asociated to a home site belongs to a group that is associated with a different home site, the home site associated with the user takes precedence over the group home site assignment.

If the user or group's home site is unavailable or does not have the resources to satisfy the request, the service continues searching other sites, such as the nearest site to the user.

Prerequisites

To add a home site, you create a relationship betweeen an existing site and an existing user or user group. Therefore, you need to have already created the site and already created the user. If you want to assign a home site to a user group, you will also need to have created that user group.

• Create the site. To add a site, select Capacity from the Universal Console and then select Add from the Sites tab.

• Create the user and optionally the user group. To add users and groups, see your specific identity provider documentation and Connecting your Identity Provider.

Procedure

1. From the Horizon Universal Console, click Settings and then click Manage on the Home Sites tile.

2. Click Add, complete the Home Site form to associate a named user or user group to an existing site, and then click Save.

After you have created a home site, you can configure the site connection affinity setting in the pool group.

You can optionally edit or remove a home site.
