You create pools, add pools to pool groups, and entitle users to pools and pool groups for Horizon Cloud on OpenStack by using either the Platform9 or OpenStack capacity type. This example illustrates pool and pool group work for a Platform9 capacity type.

Note: Horizon Cloud on OpenStack is currently available in Limited Availability (LA) mode only.
Note that the term base VM may also be referred to as Golden image in this and related documentation.
Prerequisites
To create a pool for an OpenStack or Platform9 provider type, you need a Horizon Cloud on OpenStack Edge and image and a configured Universal Access Gateway (UAG).

Create a Horizon Cloud on OpenStack Edge and configure the UAG. See Add and Deploy a Horizon Edge for OpenStack and Create a UAG Deployment for an OpenStack Edge.

Create or register an image for use with a Horizon Cloud on OpenStack Edge. See Managing Images for OpenStack Provider Deployments.

Create a Pool
Create a pool for use with a Horizon Cloud on OpenStack Edge by using the following procedure. For related information, see the on-screen help and the general information in the Creating or Editing a Pool section of this Horizon Cloud documentation.

From the Horizon Universal Console, click Pools > Add > Horizon Cloud > Platform9 to open the Add Pool stepper UI for a Horizon Cloud on OpenStack for Platform9 pool creation.

Enter a unique name for the pool in the Pool name field and optionally add a Description, and select a Pool type.
- Dedicated single-session - Use for the persistent VDI desktop experience where each desktop is mapped to a single user.
- Floating single-session - Use for the non-persistent VDI desktop experience where multiple users can use the desktop at different times and the desktop resets after each user session.
- Multi-session - Use for session-based published desktops and applications.

On the Destination page, complete the following entries:
- Select a Site where the pool is to be deployed.
- Select the Horizon Edge to use.
- Select the Provider for this deployment.

On the Image page, complete the following entries:
- For the Image name, enter the name of the image to use.
- For the OS type, enter the operating system type.
- For Valid License, enable the checkbox to confirm that you have a valid and eligible Windows OS license.

On the Provisioning page, complete the following entries:

Provision VMs - On Demand - Using this option, VMs are created as needed.
- For Minimum Spare VMs, specify the number of VMs that should always be available.
- For Maximum Spare VMs, specify the maximum number of available VMs.
- For Maximum VMs, specify the maximum number of VMs that the pool can have. The pool will never have more than this number of provisioned VMs.
- For Minimum Spare VMs, specify the number of VMs that should always be available.

Provision VMs - All at once - Using this option, all VMs are created immediately. For Maximum VMs, specify the maximum number of VMs that the pool can have.

On the Platform9 Settings page, complete the following entries:
- Cluster – Select the cluster from the drop-down menu then click Save. You can also filter on the cluster name by using the search option.
- Network – Select the network that the pool will use for virtual machine deployment.
- Cluster – Select the cluster from the drop-down menu then click Save. You can also filter on the cluster name by using the search option.

On the VM Details page, specify the VM flavor to use for the desktops.

On the Machine Identity page, complete the following entries. This section pertains to the Active Directory domain to which the pool VMs will be joined.
- Machine Identity – Select the registered domain from the drop-down menu.
- Computer OU – If you do not want to use the default OU specified in the domain, you can instead specify the full OU path to a different OU.
- The Defer VM availability until hybrid join option is available if the specified Machine Identity provider is an on-premises Active Directory server. Enabling this option allows the pool to access both on-premises and cloud-based resources. Refer to the onscreen help for the prerequisites that are required for using this option.

On the Properties page, complete the following entries:
- VM name prefix – Enter the prefix to be used for VM names in this pool.
- Reuse VM Names - Enable this option if you want VM names to be reused.
- Time Zone - Select the time zone for the virtual machines.
- Enable Automatically Adjust Clock - Enable this option to allow the VM clock to adjust automatically.
- Desktop Admin Username – Enter the username for an account on the image VM that has administrator privileges assigned to it. Ensure that the local account you provide is different from the administrator account.
- Desktop Admin Password – Enter the password for the above admin account.
- Confirm Desktop Admin Password – Repeat the password entered above.
- VM name prefix – Enter the prefix to be used for VM names in this pool.

On the Dynamic Environment Manager page, select an existing DEM configuration, if available, and click Next.

On the Workspace ONE UEM page, enable the Enroll in UEM option if you want to enroll the desktops into your Workspace ONE UEM service and click Save. Note that Intelligence Hub must be staged in the image or this enrollment option will fail.
Create a Pool Group and Entitle Users
