Using the Horizon Cloud User Card and Help Desk Feature

The user card in the Horizon Universal console is a dashboard for working with a specific end user's assigned resources, such as desktops and applications. You can also use the card to access the Help Desk feature.

To find a user, use the console's search feature.

To open a user card, perform the following steps.

  1. Click in the Search for Resources and Users field at the top of the Horizon Universal Console.

  2. Click the User tab.

  3. Enter at least two characters of the user name as specified in the onscreen help.

  4. Click the user name in the search results.

The user card displays information about the user's active sessions, desktop entitlements, and application entitlements.

Note: For Horizon 8 deployments, the Help Desk feature has the following limitations.

  • Currently, only the desktop sessions and entitlements local to Horizon Connection Server are supported.
  • Application sessions and entitlements are not displayed.
  • Global sessions brokered by the paired Horizon Connection Server, but hosted on a remote Horizon Edge are not displayed.
  • The following operations on Horizon 8 VMs are not supported:
    • Power Off
    • Shutdown
    • Power On
  • For Horizon 8 VMs, a VM details page is not an available. Therefore, no link from the User card to the VM details page is provided.

Sessions

To view and interact with the user’s active sessions, navigate to the user card.

From the Sessions tab, you can take the following actions.

  • View the session list, which includes both applications and sessions.
  • Select the check box for a specific session to enable the following actions.
  • View the details of a specific session by clicking the session Name.
    • The details available might vary by provider type.
      • The session details include client-machine details and additional details, such as VM, session, CPU usage, memory usage, and logon-segment brokering statistics for the latest active session.

Entitlements

To obtain information about user entitlements, navigate to the user card and select the Entitlements tab.

From the Entitlements tab, you can take the following actions.

  • View virtual desktops or applications entitled to that specific end user.

  • Expand an entitlement to view the VM or application details.

  • Perform operations on the desktops, such as the following:

    • Power On
    • Power Off
    • Shutdown
    • Restart

VMs

To obtain information about VMs, navigate to the user card and select the VMs tab.

The VMs tab displays which VMs are assigned to the particular user. The VMs tab also displays entitled and unentitled VMs. Unentitled VMs are shown with a warning icon to inform the admins of users having machine assignments without entitlements. To entitle an unentitled VM, the admin must entitle the pool group (for a cloud-based deployment) or the pool (for a Horizon 8 deployment) to the end user or Active Directory of the end user.

From the VMs tab, you can take the following actions:

  • View VMs entitled to that specific end user.

  • In the VMs tab, click the name of a VM to open the VM details card for that VM.

Note: Support for the VM card search depends on your infrastructure and capacity providers.

  • Perform operations on the VMs, such as the following:

    • Power On
    • Power Off
    • Shutdown
    • Restart
  • Entitle unentitled VMs.

    • For a cloud-based deployment, click Unentitled for the VM you want to entitle and then click Go To Entitlement. You are redirected within the Horizon Universal Console to the pool group page, where you can perform the entitlement.
    • For a Horizon 8 deployment, for the unentitled VM that you want to entitle, go to the Horizon Console in Horizon 8, where you can perform the entitlement on the corresponding pool.

Published Applications

To obtain information about published applications entitled to the user, navigate to the user card and select the Published Applications tab to view the detailed information.

On the Published Applications tab, you can view details about each Published Applications assignment, such as application type.

  • INSTALLED – Installed applications (from an image) added to the pool group entitled to the user.
  • APP VOLUMES – On demand App Volume applications added to the pool group entitled to the user.
  • MANUAL – Manually created applications added to the pool group entitled to the user.

Note: To perform operations on the listed Published Applications, such as to manage entitlements or delete an application, visit the Published Applications inventory page at Desktop & App Catalog > Published Applications.

App Volumes

To obtain information about App Volumes, navigate to the user card and select the App Volumes tab.

On the App Volumes tab, you can take the following actions:

  • View the App Volumes list, which is presented as a table that includes details about each App Volumes assignment.

    • The following specifics about the App Volumes table are helpful for understanding available options:
      • Assignment Type – Indicates how the entitlement was assigned.
        • User – Applications assigned directly to the user.
        • User Group – Applications assigned to a group, and to each user who is a member of the group.
        • Pool Group – Applications assigned to a pool group. All users, or groups, entitled to the pool group receive these applications.
      • Status – Indicates the current status of the application package.
        • Active
        • Pending Delete
        • Delete Failed
  • Click a package name in the Package Name column to open the package details page.

Notes:

  • The same application might be listed more than once on the App Volumes page. For example, the same application might be entitled by more than one assignment type.

  • To perform operations on the listed App Volumes applications, such as to delete an application, move a marker, or manage entitlements, navigate to App Volumes > Applications.
