Add an Image Version to an Amazon WorkSpaces Core Custom Image

You can add new versions to your existing Amazon WorkSpaces Core Custom Image in Horizon Cloud. Only a similar type of image can be added as a version of an existing image.

Prerequisites

The following prerequisites exist for the image version that you want to add:

  • An existing Amazon WorkSpaces Core Custom Image has been imported into Horizon Cloud and is available. An Amazon WorkSpaces Core Custom Image must exist and be available.

  • The new Amazon WorkSpaces Core Custom Image version must exist in the same Amazon Workspaces account and region as the parent image.

  • You have successfully installed the minimum supported version of the Horizon Agent (HAI version 25.1) by using the Horizon Agents installer.

  • You have saved the required token agent pairing spec in the WorkSpace VM at C:\AzureData\Config.bin when you prepared the parent/source Amazon WorkSpaces Core Custom Image for import. For related information about the pairing token, see Prepare to Add an Image with Amazon WorkSpaces Core.

  • You have not already used the same Amazon WorkSpaces Core Custom Image that you wish to add as a version as another source or version image in Horizon Cloud.

Considerations

The following considerations are helpful as you prepare to add image versions of your Amazon WorkSpaces Core Custom Images in Horizon Cloud.

  • For Amazon WorkSpaces Core Custom Images, you cannot use a copy operation to create a new version. Instead, you must prepare another Amazon WorkSpaces Core Custom Image outside of Horizon Cloud and add it as a new version to an existing image in Horizon Cloud.

  • The Amazon WorkSpaces Core Custom Image must be prepared with the minimum supported version of the Horizon Agent (HAI) installed. The minimumm supported HAI agent version changes periodically and is always listed in the Horizon Cloud Release Notes.

  • You can only add image version(s) that match session type and GPU type of the parent/source image. For example, you cannot add a single session Amazon WorkSpaces Core Custom Image as a version of a multi-session Amazon WorkSpaces Core Custom Image.

  • You cannot use a source image that has already been used as another version in Horizon Cloud. As well, you cannot use a previously published image as a source image when adding a new image or a new image version.

  • The Add version functionality is only supported for Amazon WorkSpaces Core Custom Images. To create versions of an Amazon EC2 Custom Instance image, see Clone an Image Version from an Amazon EC2 Instance.

Procedure

  1. From the Horizon Universal Console Home page, click the Images tile.
  2. On the Images page, click an Image Name that was added from the Amazon WorkSpaces Core Custom Image source to navigate to the Image page.
  3. With the Versions tab selected, click Add to navigate to the Add Image Version page.
  4. Select a desired source. Currently only an Amazon WorkSpaces Core Custom Image source is available.
  5. Specify source details as prompted.
  6. In the Target Version section, select the Version Type as Major or Minor.
    • If you select Major, the version value is populated automatically, based on your selection and any previously existing versions of the image.
    • If you select Minor, specify the Major Version number under which you want to add the minor version value.
  7. Click Save to add the version to the image.

Source image details are validated after the request is accepted and the status is updated to Available after validation. After the source image details are validated and the status displays as Available, you can add the image version to pools.
