Horizon 8 Edge Deployments

To onboard Horizon Cloud, you must set up your Horizon Edge with Horizon Connection Server as described in the following sections and redeem the Horizon Cloud Welcome email sent to the administrator account.

For information about redeeming the Horizon Cloud Welcome email, refer to Onboarding for Horizon Cloud Administrators.

To configure the Active Directory domain and identity provider, refer to Setting Up Identity and Access Provider Information for Edge Deployments.

For overall architecture information about Horizon 8 provider-type deployments, see Horizon 8 provider in Omnissa Tech Zone's Horizon Cloud Architecture.

You can add an existing vCenter instance as a capacity provider to a Horizon 8 Edge. For this task, you enable Horizon 8 Edge to access an existing vCenter Server. Specifically, you add a vCenter instance as a provider.

Prerequisites

Note: Multiple Horizon Edges can access the same vCenter instance.

Required Account Privilege

To deploy the Horizon Edge Gateway OVF/OVA, the vCenter Admin must assign a least-privilege role at the Datacenter level with Propagate to children enabled. The following privileges are required:

  • Datastore: Allocate space, Browse, Low level file operations, Update VM files
  • Network: Assign network
  • Resource: Assign virtual machine to resource pool
  • vApp: Import/Export
  • Folder: Create/Delete folder (only if creating a new VM folder)
  • Virtual Machine:
    • Inventory: Create
    • Configuration: Add/Remove device, Advanced configuration, Change CPU/Memory, Change settings, Extend virtual disk
    • Interaction: Power on/Power off (optional: Device/Console interaction)
  • Host: Local operations → Create/Reconfigure VM (required for direct-to-host or non-DRS scenarios)

  1. Log in to Horizon Cloud. See Log in to Horizon Cloud.

  2. From the Horizon Universal Console Home page, click Capacity > Providers.

  3. Click Add > vCenter.
