App Network

Use the App Network feature in your Omnissa Workspace ONE Experience Management for Windows and Horizon deployments for visibility into how individual application processes (binaries) establish network connections, transfer data, and encounter connectivity issues on employee devices.

Limited availability

Intelligence offers the App Network feature with limited availability. These features are available to a limited number of customers for extended feedback. To request access, contact your Omnissa Global Customer Services (GCS) representative.

How does it work?

The Experience Management (DEX) Telemetry Agent collects real-time network telemetry for each application process (binary). Real-time network telemetry includes connection attempts, failures, connection establishment time, traffic volume, and metadata such as protocol and destination type.

The agent sends telemetry to Omnissa Intelligence and Intelligence displays the telemetry in dashboards and Experience Management views.

Benefits

This feature helps IT teams troubleshoot application performance problems, analyze connectivity failures, and proactively detect network degradations across applications, devices, and locations.

  • Improve Troubleshooting Accuracy
    • Identify whether issues stem from the application or from an underlying network issue.
    • Analyze failed connections, slow connection setup times, and traffic patterns.
  • Accelerate IT Support and RCA
    • Quickly determine whether network issues are localized per device or global.
    • Reduce the MTTR (mean time to repair) for incident responses.
  • Proactive Network Issue Detection
    • Detect spikes in failed connections or detect increased connection setup latency.
    • Some of the ways you can track these issues include by application, binary, device type, and app version.
  • Environment-Wide Insight
    • Identify applications that consume high bandwidth.
    • Understand which applications regularly face connectivity failures.

Helpful definitions

Consider the following definitions and event descriptions when using the App Network feature.

  • An application refers to a process or binary running on a device.
    • On Windows, this is typically an EXE file. Examples: Teams.exe, Outlook.exe, or Chrome.exe.
  • A connection refers to a network session initiated by a process to a remote endpoint using standard network protocols (TCP in the 25.09 release).
  • A connection attempt may succeed, fail, or take longer than expected to establish. To track connection attempts, App Network offers the following event types - Failed, New, Closed, and Connection Statistics.
    • New Connection - Identifies when an application initially connects to a network.
    • Failed Connection - Identifies when an application failed to connect to a network.
      • Connection Timed Out - The app attempted to connect, but the server didn’t respond in time. Examples: weak Wi-Fi, VPN latency, and remote service offline.
      • Connection Refused - The remote server actively rejected the connection. Examples: port closed, service not accepting requests, and firewall rule blocking inbound connection.
      • System Blocked - The device or a local security control blocked the connection. Examples: Windows firewall block, antivirus/EDR rule, and OS-level policy preventing outbound traffic.
      • Network Unreachable - The device cannot reach the network required for the connection. Examples: no route to host, disconnected from Wi-Fi, and corporate network segment unavailable.
    • Closed Connection - Identifies when an application no longer remains connected to a network.
    • Connection Statistics - Gives metrics on an application’s network connection.
  • The feature only collects connection metadata. The feature does not collect URLs, content, or payloads.
